VIVA SUNITA
by AMITABH SINHA & LOLITA SARKAR - Best Direction

Awarded Director
Amitabh Sinha

We direct commercials. Usually. A lot of people's views have to be taken on board... The idea of an independent project, or at least a personal interpretation of a communication is tempting stuff.

Question when making film is: What is 'something to say'? What should one talk about when one 'talks about oneself'? So you wait...

Calvino is no mere writer - he has the precision of a surgeon and a poet. The pictures, the idea, the narrative... are all... very clear.

We can't talk about our own sensibility with any real success, but we tried to follow something Calvino said after decades of writing, which caught our fancy - he said he'd spent forever learning what to leave out.

Devang Vyas at Fuji India gave us 16mm film stock, Vishal Sinha, our cinematographer 'lent' us his camera and his services. Lights were provided free by Mulchand at Lights & Grips. Almost all the actors did not charge for their work.

Awarded Director
                                      Lolita Sarkar

And thanks to these kindnesses - the film you see.

It would be fey to make deep directorial comments on this film.

Our gratitude to the story.
Our hope is we didn't mangle it too much.

And on that note? phew, thanks!

BOARD OF DEATH
by ALASTAIR FERRAN - Special Mention

Special Mention
Board of Death

When scientist Jack Graham returns from the jungles of Peru, he has a new leap in pharmaceutical medicine in his possession.

Hunted by those who will stop at nothing to get their hands on it, he is pursued by a pair of hired assassins named Mr Smith and Mr Jones.

Awarded Director
                                    Alastair Ferran

Board of Death is an action film and not afraid to show it.

When creating the film I wanted to create a film for nothing that had that 'wow' factor of all the action films I grew up with as a kid and at the same time to thrill without sacrificing intelligence, character or wit.

The Annual Program Without Frontiers granted again its Award at the 23rd Mar del Plata International Film Festival

Carlos Martinez and Bou Grasso
23rd Mar del Plata Film Festival - Awards Ceremony

The Annual Program Without Frontiers Award has been granted in the two former editions of this A Class FIAPF Film Festival, and it has accomplished it's goal: the Argentinean directors who won, Cristobal Braun Mesples in 2006, and Fermin Valeros in 2007, got a strong international recognition as well as support for their next projects.

Once again, it is an honour for our institution to give out  our Award to The Employment, directed by Santiago "Bou" Grasso and a Special Mention to Shout, by Andrés Denegri at the 23rd Mar del Plata International Film Festival. It includes the Official Program Diploma, and also the automatic selection for the 2009 editions of the San Francisco Short Film Festival and the Festival du Cinema de Paris, in accordance with the decision of the Official Competition Jury.
